XYLITOL NATURAL TURBO CHARGER

Xylitol, a naturally occurring 5-carbon sugar alcohol, is found in many fruits and vegetables and is commonly used as a sugar substitute. Xylitol contains approximately 1/3 the calories of regular sugar, and the FDA has ruled it is safe in any amount. Studies have found that Xylitol is anti-cariogenic, non-cariogenic, and promotes repair.

KIDS TRANSLATION:

Xylitol makes the mean "cavity bugs" sick and tired and allows your teeth to repair.

BENEFITS OF XYLITOL:
  1. Neutralizes acid, promoting re-mineralization (repair of enamel)
  2. Decreases growth & adherence of Streptococcus mutans (bugs), inhibiting fermentation/acid production
  3. Reduces biofilm, inhibiting plaque formation
USING XYLITOL:
  • Xylitol is not a substitute for brushing, flossing, and fluoride
  • Frequency is the key (4 times a day)
    • After meals
    • During or after practice
    • Study time
    • T.V. time
INFO ON FLUORIDE WHERE RUBBER MEETS THE ROAD

The anticaries activity of fluoride is complex, affecting the bacteria (Streptococcus mutans) and the mineral phases of tooth enamel. Fluoridated water increases the concentration of fluorapatite in tooth enamel, making the tooth more resistant to acid challenges; however, it is limited and is not responsible for fluoride’s major contribution as an anticaries agent.

KIDS TRANSLATION:

Fluoride makes teeth a little stronger against acid, and puts the mean "cavity bugs" to sleep for a few hours so your tooth can repair.

BENEFITS OF FLUORIDE:
  1. Compromises bacterial cell functions, decreasing acid production
  2. Reduces biofilm, inhibiting plaque formation
  3. Increases the tooth's ability to repair itself
DIET BLACK FLAGS

Cavity bugs live and thrive in acid. Streptococcus mutans ferments sugar to make acid, which causes demineralization of tooth enamel.

EFFECTS OF A SUGARY DIET:

Sticky sugars are the worst! They attach to enamel and braces, where they increase production of acid.

  • The average candy bar has 35 grams of sticky sugar
  • Soft drinks have as much as 40-42 grams of sugar and phosphoric acid
  • It takes 5 minutes to start significant enamel loss.
KIDS TRANSLATION:

To achieve a healthy smile, don't feed the mean "cavity bugs" sticky
sugars or acid!
